Hamilton House 2024 Project List
Every new year starts out with well thought out goals and intensions for myself and our home. And if you’ve been around a while, you know that in 2021, I sat down for the first time ever and wrote out my wish list for our home that I wanted to bring in that year. It made for the best road map for the year and we were off to a great start. After Marcus’s passing, things came to a halt and just got pushed off until I was ready to make changes to our home again. When 2022 rolled in, it wasn’t long before it felt right to start doing just that. Whatever was left over from the year before, made it to the 2022 wish list and I actually wrote out a full project list for the year as well. All the things we’d dreamed of doing before, like the big landscaping project, went on the list and became my way of honoring Marcus in this new era of our home.
Somehow, when 2023 rolled around, there was so much going on that I failed to make my lists for the year and as time passed, I, ultimately, felt like I was being drug by the nose through projects and purchases. I did manage to get some major projects knocked out, but they didn’t feel as intentional as the years before. Don’t get me wrong, they turned out amazingly, but I wish I had gone into them with the same gusto and organization as before!
So what did we get done in 2023? I knocked out 2 full bathroom renovations! The infamous primary bathroom redo, which actually started in 2022 but ended in 2023, and the hall bath reno were both gut jobs down to the studs! Both drove me insane with crazy delays and hiccups, but they both turned out incredibly!
So here we are in 2024 and I’m back on my game and here to share my project list for the year! I thought the two bathrooms were my last home projects, but there’s still the final mile to go! So, here’s what you can be on the lookout for over here this year:
1. Davin’s Gaming Room
The kid is of the age now where he’s showing interest in long term goal and gaming, gaming development and coding are on his list. It was high time to give him a space to spread out outside of his bedroom to make room for these goals to come to fruition! This room used to be Marcus’s office and gaming room and after his passing, quickly became a storage room. I thought there was no better way to honor both of their loves for gaming than to transition from dad to son. We’re keeping a lot of what was there of Marcus’s, but adding some elements that are very specific to Davin to show his personality and add a few more elements for functionality.
2. The Guest Room
This room got a beautiful makeover back in 2020 and I loved every inch of it. But my sister moved in with us for a bit and a lot had to change to accommodate her needs so a lot of what was there had to go. Fast forward a bit, my sister’s moved and it’s time to update this room again to accommodate guests…more than one at a time. Before, it was cool for solo guests, but not great for all of my couple friends that wanted to come stay. We’re going to be addressing that and a whole lot more with this refresh!
3. The Garage
It’s been a catch all for cardboard boxes and donation for 2 years now and I’ve had enough!!! I want to have a real garage for 2 parked cars again! Not only do we have some major organization planned, but there’s also going to be some beautification (hello new garage door) coming as well!
4. The Wet Bar
I know, this one may be a shock to some of you! I absolutely love the look and functionality of our wet bar, but everything that’s been done to it over the years felt like temporary fixes. Though it all looks great, I want fixtures and finishes for the long haul. We’ve been working with the original cabinetry and plumbing fixtures but I’m ready for some upgrades. Hoping to find a solution to incorporate some real bar appliances like a beverage fridge or ice maker to the mix too!
5. HONORABLE MENTION: Pool House/Third Bathroom
I don’t know if this will happen this year, but it’s definitely high on the priority list to tackle soon. With the pool parties in full swing, I want to have a space closer to the pool as an option for people to use versus them tracking water throughout the house to get to either of the current bathrooms. I’m working through the option of adding a bathroom in come of the available space in our workshop off our garage or adding a totally separate structure to the backyard, like my bestie’s Studio Shed office.
So, that’s it. My light home project list of 2024. LOL! Number one is already underway, so stay tuned for the full plan and the results. Have you guys made your home wish list or project list for this year? What’s on it? Would love to see them in the comment section below!
