My 2021 Home Wish List
Hey peeps! 2021 is in full swing and my bestie, Shavonda, had a great idea for each of us to put together our own 2021 wishlist for our home! Now, I will say, it took me a minute to really think about this since late 2019 and all of 2020 was chocked full of projects here at #NubiHouse! We completely made over our main bedroom and bathroom, our guest room, Davin’s room, our kitchen and dining area, created an office, totally revitalized our living room (more on that to come) and revamped our patio, so what could a girl possibly want after that!?
Apparently, a lot! LOL! Once I really started to dig into what we wanted to tackle for our home this year, putting together the list was quite easy and the list grew quickly. Some items are replacements for things we’ve lived with and just aren’t working for us anymore. Some items are things we’ve always wanted, but have been put on the backburner to make room for more pressing things. And some things I didn’t know I wanted until I started putting this list together! All in all, you’re in for a journey!
So, lets start in the room that has the longest list: our kitchen. Yes, we just finished making over this space, but there’s a few things that I’d love to add to either 1. finish what we started 2. amp up the functionality or 3. upgrade to better quality.
First up, this brass rectangular mirror.
I’m itching to get a mirror back over our kitchen sink and this one fits the bill perfectly. I actually ordered it over a month ago, but it was delivered shattered in pieces. Now, it’s on order again so I can get this final detail checked off my list!
Next up, a new French door refrigerator.
Our existing fridge came with our house, which is great! But after using it for almost 5 years and buying the same groceries for almost that long, I know that a French door style fridge would better suit our needs as a family. And now that we’ve updated our kitchen, the black stainless finish would be the icing on the cake!
Next, my fav and probably most immediate purchase to be: a new daily coffee experience!
Not long ago, I put some feelers out to my Instagram community on their favorite coffee makers and out of the hundreds of responses, Breville’s weren’t #1, but were pretty high on the list. I’d chalk it up to price, because it’s about the same price as a dishwasher, but they bring about an experience like none other. And considering my love for my daily cup, that’s why they’re #1 on my list. I’m going with the Bambino since I’m the only coffee drinker in my house and with a smaller kitchen, countertop real-estate is key. I think it will be the perfect replacement to my 10 year old Keurig mini.
Last thing for the kitchen, a new cookware set.
I can’t tell you how many cookware sets we’ve purchased since being married, but just since we’ve been in our home (5 years), we’ve bought 3! Mind you, I’m not the one that made the last 2 purchases (side eye), but I’m done! I want some high quality cookware that’s going to last us longer than 2 years! My bestie introduced me to All-Clad about a year ago by gifting me their griddle, which totally upgraded our #pancakesundays! I love the quality so much that I now want the full set!
Okay, on to our next space: the dining area! I love this space soooo much, but if you follow my daily ventures on Instagram, you’ll know that there’s some unfinished business in this space. Our amazing new dining chairs are not so amazing for our space (they’re too big), so they’re being replaced…again. Fortunately, I think I’m pretty settled on their replacement.
This dining chair is literally the little sister to our existing dining chairs! Same finish, same upholstery color, same can color, but narrower in width! Exactly what I need and want! I just hate that everywhere I look for them has a lead time of 12-16 weeks! Uuuuggghhh!!! I’ll get around to ordering them (and selling our current ones) one day. Lol!
Okay, moving back around to appliances, next on my wish list are a new washer and dryer set!
Let me tell you! We bought our Samsung washer and dryer set when we bought our house 5 years ago. The washing machine has been great, but that. damn. dryer?!? The dryer has been a pain in our assess for the past 3 years! We’ve had the heating system replaced twice and whatever makes the drum spin around has been replaced THREE TIMES!!! I’m sick of it! Hubs is sick of it! It has to go! I loved the look of the Samsung, but now want to go back to a trusted laundry appliance brand like Whirlpool or Maytag.
I found this set that has amazing reviews and still looks updated enough to fit in aesthetically. (By the way, you can’t convince me to go front load, so don’t even try.)
Next space: our living area! I’m long overdue for an updated blog post on this space and I promise it’s coming soon! But there are are few “small” edits/additions I’d like to make to the space at some point in the near future.
First, I’d love to replace my DIY console table that’s behind our sectional with something that’s tall and open like the bookcase below. The console has served it’s purpose for almost 8 years, but I want more surface space for more plants!
I love this metal bookcase from Noir Furniture and would use it at inspiration for something a bit more custom. I’d want it to be a bit wider, maybe 3 sections instead of two and I’d want the bottom row cubbies to be wide and tall enough to still fit my waterfall ottomans (seen above).
I’m in love with our entryway and hallway, but would love to update the lighting in both!
First, I’d love to replace our front door with one that allows more natural light in!
I’d also take that same approach with the hallway by adding a sun tunnel or two! We have one in our main bathroom and it’s amazing how much natural light it brings into the space!
The last thing on my wish list is a new rug for our bedroom. I love our current rug, I just wish is was bigger!
As you can see, it’s a great rug, but there’s still quite a bit of real-estate around it. My rule for rugs in bedrooms is that the rug should extend past the width of the nightstands. Our existing rug is about a foot too short to do that (the size I wanted was out of stock at the time I needed it, so I sized down. Don’t do that.) Now that I feel it’s time to upgrade the size, I’ve also thought to update the look. I’m loving these two options from Lulu and Georgia!
Our existing rug is an 8 x 10 and I’d go for a 9 x 12 in either of these! I love how they’re neutral with a hint of warm caramel tones, very similar to our vintage burl nightstands and they’d look amazing with the green tones in the space. I can’t figure out which one I love most, but I promise to keep you posted when I do!
So, there you have it! My home wish list for 2021! Not a lot, but there’s some big ticket items here! We’ll see how much we get checked off the list! Oh, and before you go, head over to Shavonda’s blog to see her list! It’s making want to add a few to mine! LOL!
