Exterior Magic with the BEHR® Color Trends 2021 Pallete
Hey hey friends!!!! I finally get to share all the goodness that’s happened OUTSIDE our home! But that’s not all! We went big on this makeover for a big reason! I get to be one of good news bearers by sharing the BEHR® Color Trends 2021 Palette!!! The palette’s 21 colors bring vital energy, so designers and DIYers alike can create energizing yet comforting environments in any type of space!! There’s, literally, a color for every application: soft, earthy neutrals, deep fall tones that are gorgeous year-round, like luscious marigolds, moody olives, and, of course, black!
We’d been planning to transform our home’s exterior since the day we met it. It wasn’t until recently that we were financially able to make it happen and get it done, so this palette was right on time! I’d known for years that I wanted a house with a black exterior, but had been pondering for months on what color our front door should be. At first glance of BEHR Color Trends 2021 Palette, the decision was a no brainer! The black (Broadway PPU18-20) was a given, but my eye immediately locked on to the bold and expressive Kalahari Sunset MQ1-25! I made my way to The Home Depot's paint department to grab samples and my gut feeling was confirmed!
If you’ve followed my Instagram stories lately, you know I’ve been on a huge kick for terracottas. Well, this palette is what kicked off that new addiction! I love the moody tone I chose for the guest room, but wanted something with a bit happier and welcoming disposition for the front door and Kalahari Sunset was perfection!
Originally, our front door was a dusty barn red, so just a few weeks after moving in, I gave it a coat of black paint, but knew it couldn’t stay black with a black house. I needed a color that would sing!
Kalahari Sunset was the perfect punch of color for our new BLACK (Broadway PPU18-20) exterior. It’s playful, without feeling juvenile, and bright, but still very warm; exactly what I was hoping for. I chose to use BEHR ULTRA™ Exterior Paint.
Since the door had been previously painted with a quality paint, there was no need for a separate primer. Two coats of BEHR Ultra was all it needed. Here’s a quick vid of the color going up (and tips on painting a panel door)!
Once the color was up, I knew I had to freshen up everything around it. Hubs had the bright idea to paint our house numbers the same color as the door. I love how they pop and can now be seen from the street. Next up was the 1970’s light fixture. We had already replaced all the exterior lighting with modern cylinder wall sconces, so I knew I wanted something similar for the front entry. I also wanted something that wouldn’t stand out or detract from the new color, so I went with this black cylindrical flush mount from The Home Depot.
I also added a new ‘hello’ doormat and modern, square planter with a gorgeous autumn fern to compliment the new color and I love how they seem to be made for each other! It was so easy to browse and select these items from The Home Depot and they offer a convenient online shopping experience too, which is great if you don’t have time to visit a store.
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it forever: paint is one of the most impactful tools you can use to transform a space! It reigns true time and time again and my front entry is proof! I’ll be back soon with the reveal of the full exterior! In the meantime, I want to hear which colors from the BEHR Color Trends 2021 Palette you’re loving and the most likely way you’d use it! Dish the deets below! And when you’re ready, head out to grab yours (or have it delivered!!!) from The Home Depot!
