2024 Sips for Sickle Cell Event
September is Sickle Cell Awareness Month, and I had the honor and pleasure of hosting the 3rd annual Sips for Sickle Cell event in efforts to raise money for the Methodist LeBonheur Healthcare Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center!
Held at Dixon Gallery & Gardens and catered by Chef Phillip Dewayne, this night was so much fun and the event has just gotten better and better every year! Thanks to everyone’s support, we raised over $73,000! Huge thank you to Methodist and to Mary and Mike Conley for their incredible efforts to support the Sickle Cell community locally and beyond.
Here’s how to make the cocktail:
Tropical Trans-fruit-sion
1/4 cup Tropical Passion Brandy
1 750-ml bottle dry, crisp chilled white wine (Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio)
1/4 cup organic cane sugar
Cut Fruit: peaches, strawberries, green apple, lime, lemon
First, prep your fruit. Wash, chop and then add fruit to a large pitcher. Pour in brand and wine. Mix to combine. Add in cane sugar and adjust to taste. Chill in fridge (for at least 4 hours) to allow the fruit to macerate and really soak up the flavor. This is one of those cocktails that gets better over time. Serve with ice and garnish with a lemon or lime slice.
While we’re here, this is a call to all my peeps to support in one of the simplest ways possible: donate blood to your local blood bank! It’s the biggest and most important resource for those in crisis!

Thank you to all who came out to support such an important cause!
