Being told “You smell good. “ is a top 5 compliment, so finding a fragrance that really speaks to who you are and what you like is a must. Scent is probably the most powerful sense that we have (it has the ability to trigger so many emotions and memories with just one whiff), and there’s something so fun about discovering a special fragrance that you’ll add to your repertoire at different points of your life.
There are all types of quizzes across the internet that you can take to help you figure out your own signature scent, but the biggest thing to consider when you’re on the hunt is: what do you like? Do you love the scent of fresh laundry, or prefer something more earthy or floral (aka what’s the fragrance profile)? Do you want a more complex scent or something simple? Would you prefer an oil over parfume? How will you wear it?
So many times, people go for what’s trendy, but you should really consider how a fragrance mixes with your body’s chemistry and how it makes you feel when you wear it, so take your time when choosing a new scent. When it comes to fragrances I’m drawn to, I typically lean towards the very sexy, powerful well-moisturized Black woman that has her shit together, loves to keep things simple but needs a touch of luxury to elevate her everyday. Down enough to pop into a cigar lounge and have a glass o bourbon for a date or to discuss business but will be the biggest tipper to the cocktail waitress because “who run the world?
