Our Living Room...FINALLY!
I get asked the question often, what's my favorite space I've ever created. Well, friends, I, finally, have an answer! It's taken several years for the space to come together, but without a shadow of a doubt, it's our living room! Every detail was thought through and every element has a significant purpose and meaning. So happy it's finally making it's full appearance here on the blog!
In true transformation fashion, this post wouldn’t be complete without a trip down memory lane! Here’s what our living area looked like on the day we got the keys to our home (almost 5 years ago).
The entire house was baby blue and brown and still had a lot of it’s original charm. It was totally uninspiring, but I had a vision from the very beginning.
It took a few years to get here, but after only some paint, furniture and accessories, this space totally came to life! Our living room is the epitome of my ‘modern bohemian’ aesthetic. All of the foundational pieces are modern and clean lined and then layered with tons of texture, cultural items and plants! Every piece of art in the space is an original and meticulously curated by me. I’m blessed to have truly gifted and giving friends like, Frances Berry Moreno, Monica Lewis and Ronnie Williams, who all gifted me pieces of their amazing work. Other pieces are ones I fell in love with from other artists, like Michelle Robinson (Mister Michelle), or I created myself by hanging some of my original works from my college studio class or by framing one of the last notes that my mom wrote to me before she passed away. Every single piece is special in it’s own way…making this space one that we absolutely love to be in.
Although the space is open to our home office, I wanted to create some visual separation and was able to do so with color. Since our office was white, I wanted to change the mood and evoke more a lounge feeling by painting this side of the room black. I even had my painters paint out our stone fireplace, extending the eye to the ceiling to give the illusion of a finished tile job. I’d always hated that the stone stopped halfway up the wall…this was a clever and inexpensive solution!
The wet bar was one of the first spaces in our home to get some attention. Those rickety shelves had to go. You can check out that process here. It was a cost friendly makeover that totally maximized that space, but once it was painted black, it took it to an entirely new level!
This space has taken almost 5 years to come together and I couldn’t be more proud! But, I know what you’re all here for, so here are all the sources of everything that I could find, but please know that a majority of what I have is no longer available.
