My Updated Haircare Routine

It’s been over 2 years since I loc’d my hair and I can’t believe I’ve never talked about it here! I have a full highlight and reel on Instagram detailing my journey, but I thought it would be a great idea to share and what I use to care for and maintain them.

My overall loc maintenance is done at A Natural Affair with Owner and Stylist Takisha Berry Brooks, but I still have to take care of it daily, so here are the products and steps I currently use. It’s a relatively easy routine, but the products and every day maintenance makes all the difference in the world and helps to keep my hair healthy.

Shampoo with Dr. Loc’s Yasin Shampoo

Apply to wet locs and massage into a rich lather. Rinse thoroughly. Repeat as often as necessary. Normally it is recommended to wash locs at least 3 times.

Condition with Dr. Locs Jinan Moisture Mix

This Leave-In Conditioner can be used daily for a moisturizer as well. Shake well and spray conditioner evenly throughout locs and roots for grooming.

Oil Scalp with Dr. Locs Yaya Oil

I use this to oil my scalp and as a daily source of conditioning for dry scalp and dry locs when needed. The Yaya Oil can also be used for hot oil treatments.

To refresh my hair, I use the Define Natural Hair Kinks Kocktail Leave-In Mist and their Growth Elixer on my scalp and hair to help stimulates new growth.

My ends are loose and curly, so I use Cantu’s Wave Whip Curling Mousse with Shea Butter to help define them.

I use this same routine on Davin’s hair, but he recently decided to make his own big change with his locs. I’m honored that he wanted me to be the one to cut the locs that I started almost 6 years ago. I’ve always respected the choices he’s made when it came to his appearance and this one was no different.

Can’t believe how much older he looks! click here to see the change on Instagram!
