My Dining Room in the Living By Design Showhouse

It’s here! I’m so excited to unveil my space for The 2023 Living by Design Virtual Show House! I had the privilege of designing the dining room, which is one of the first spaces you see when entering the home. I tapped into my modern bohemian aesthetic and grounded the space with clean-lined furniture while contrasting it against highly textured accents and a bold wallpaper.

Designing a virtual space is so incredibly freeing! There are no limitations so the world is literally your oyster! No budgets, no lead time restraints, no need to consider real life at all! What jelly stain? What dog hair. What poorly placed air duct? There’s no need to worry about any of it!

So the inspiration behind the space was actually the Nomalanga - Mocha & Black Wallpaper by Forbes + Masters. I’ve been in love with it for well over 2 years and haven’t been able to use it in a tangible space, so when the opportunity for the showhouse came about, I knew it would be my starting point! I loved that it looked very modern and almost elemental while feeling very textured and cultural.

My absolute favorite element of the space though is the dining table! It’s raw, highly textured, art! The formation of the base makes the table appear that it’s floating! And contrasted with the soft velvet dining chairs, this raw piece of wood in the middle of the space just draws you in and makes you want to touch and feel and experience the space! This table is what makes you hate that this room only exist virtually!

I wanted this space to evoke a feeling of natural luxury. Every element was intentionally selected to flow together with elements of nature that draw you in and feel familiar but are elevated in ways you’ve never seen before. It’s just the right amount of lux, while still feeling attainable.
