Nubi House: Dining Room Refresh

Hey Peeps! We had a pretty eventful weekend on Instagram as you guys followed me along as I made some updates to our kitchen and dining area! I had already decided to change out some lighting, but I knew I couldn’t do that until I stopped procrastinating and got the ceiling painted…a whole 2 years after noticing it had only been primed by the previous home owners. Those changes led to more changes and here we are! But before we get to the big reveal, let’s take a walk down memory lane, shall we?

DINING ROOM BEFORE:

Above is what our dining space looked like right after we moved in. We just dropped in our tiny little table and Target chair into place. About a month after we moved in, I started the project of painting all of the trim and doors in our home black (Color: Glidden Paint Onyx). Here’s what the dining room looked like after the trim coat a few fresh coats.

Soon after, I got what were at the time, my dream dining chairs: black mid-century eiffel chairs, reproduced after the famed versions by Charles and Ray Eames.

Eventually, we replaced the light fixture (twice), got a new dining table, played a few rounds of musical rugs and even covered the cut-out/pass-through with an oversized piece of art. Here’s a photo journey of how it transformed up until this past weekend.

This was the end of summer 2019 up until this past weekend!

DINING ROOM AFTER:

Most of you saw the entire process of the accent wall come to life. In case you missed it, just click here to see how I came up with the design, how I decided on the colors, what I used and a fun hyper-lapse video of me actually painting the design.

Once the ceiling had a fresh coat of white paint (Behr Ultra Bright White), I wanted to add some interest. I’ve always loved the look of modern, Parisian interiors and a good majority of them have beautifully ornate ceiling medallions. I thought it would be the perfect touch to elevate the super simple light fixture! It was super easy to install (I’ll be back to tell you all about how it went in another post).

Be sure to come back in a few days to see how I decked out the dining room and cooked for a little virtual dinner party the other day. It was quite the spread!

9/2020 UPDATE! After a 5 month delay, our new dining chairs finally came in!

Unfortunately, I made a very rare, but huge mistake! I feel in love with the style of the chair, but did not consider the size/scale of the chair as it relates to our dining table. So, guess what? They’re too big! I ordered 6 of these beauties, but only 4 of them fit comfortably at the table. *insert crying face! They would be absolutely perfect if my table was a full circle or a rectangle or if they were slightly narrower in width. They’re incredibly comfortable, but slightly firm…exactly what one is looking for in a dining chair. The only reason I’m replacing them is because I want 6 chairs around my table, not 4. So, for now, two of them are dispersed to other areas and I’m back on the hunt for more suitable, but equally stylish chairs!

WOMP WOMP!

I promise to keep you guys updated as I continue the hunt! In the meantime, shop everything you see here (featuring plenty of alternatives for things like my vintage rug, art, etc.)
