2023 Sips for Sickle Cell Event

Another successful event in the books!

For the second year in a row, I hosted Sips for Sickle Cell, a fundraising event that benefits the Methodist Healthcare Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center.

Held at the Dixon Gallery & Gardens, it was a fun night that included delicious bites by Chef Phillip Dewayne and a unique specialty cocktail I curated for us to “sip” on. It was an all-around fantastic evening!

This year I interviewed creative artist and sickle cell warrior Christen Dukes while we prepared You’re So Vein, a delicious blood orange cocktail that I’m sure you all will love.

We sipped on a version made with Tito’s Vodka, but if you’re a Bourbon lover like me, it can be prepared that way as well. Here’s the recipe!

You’re So Vein

Vodka Version

  • 2 oz of Titos

  • 2 oz of cane and herb rosemary syrup

  • 1 oz of freshly squeezed blood orange juice

  • Top with brut champagne

  • Garnish with a sprig of rosemary adn dried blood orange.

Bourbon Version

  • 2 oz of bourbon

  • 2 oz of cane and herb rosemary syrup

  • 1 oz of freshly squeezed blood orange juice

  • Splash of ginger ale

  • Top with brut champagne

  • Garnish with a sprig of rosemary and dried blood orange.

What an amazing night! With your support, Sips for Sickle Cell raised $77,000+ to benefit the Methodist Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center!

I truly appreciate bearing witness to events like these, built to support the people of this city. Memphis has one of the largest populations for adult sickle cell disease in the country, so it’s imperative that there are organizations supporting them. Thankfully, Methodist Lebonheur Healthcare is an organization doing just that!
